What Happened to the Burger King in Sierra Vista?
If only there was a way to disseminate information so everyone could see it without having to ask the same question repeatedly. You know, like the internet, maybe? Social media, perhaps?
Checking out one of Sierra Vista's main chit-chat sites on Facebook, it seems like not everyone has gotten the word.
"What happened to the Burger King in Sierra Vista?"
This question gets asked a lot. I mean, a lot. The level of sarcasm keeps escalating, too. From zero to Red Lobster, we're hovering around Red Lobster and the Space Monkey's Alien Saga and Lunacy Adventure. Okay. I don't know what that means, but suffice it to say, things are getting ridiculous.
I don't know if we've got a lot of new folks here, or if some of us are just waking up to the idea that we're one fast-food restaurant short of a heart attack.
Either way, we have two kinds of people in these forums: Those who just discovered Burger King has been closed, and those who are sick of answering the question.
So, What DID Happen to the Burger King in Sierra Vista?
The Burger King restaurant at 415 State Route 90 Bypass next to the Subway restaurant experienced a monumental disaster late last summer. While the monsoons were still blowing through Cochise County, this particular storm was one for the books.
According to the Sierra Vista Herald, the storm took out part of the roof at the Burger King location. The restaurant, it was estimated, would be closed for repairs for about four months to shore up the damage.

Why is Burger King Still Closed?
That was a little over five months ago, and the building is still boarded up. In fact, there are barricades and old kitchen racks barring entry into the parking lot. It's a fairly ominous sign when kitchen equipment is being used to keep people away from a restaurant.
So, what's the news? Basically, there's not much to report. If the chitter chatter is to be believed, the original owner may have given up the fight to reopen the location.
An anonymous user posted speculation that the owner "gave up". The user boldly claims the owner just kept the insurance money and moved on, although this can't be substantiated. The user also asserts to have contacted Burger King Corporation but didn't turn up any satisfying answers there, either.
Mr./Ms. Anonymous User appears to be a fan of the restaurant and lamented that "going to the Burger King on Post", or driving to either Bisbee or Benson to satisfy that Whopper craving was just too much of a time investment.
A Spark of Hope for Sierra Vista's Burger King
I dug deep on this one and located a Cochise County record that appears to transfer the license of ownership to a new entity.
On October 31, 2023, the county recorded a change of ownership fee for the establishment. There's no information on who the new owner is and the document doesn't say if or when the Sierra Vista Burger King will reopen.
