Two Arrested After SWAT Operation Unfolds Near Sierra Vista
According to a Press Release from the City of Sierra Vista, two individuals were taken into custody on May 19 following a SWAT operation in the 7300 block of Lariat Road in Hereford.
The press release reports that the Cochise County Regional SWAT team assisted Sierra Vista Police to serve arrest warrants around 5:30 p.m. Officials noted that the response was precautionary, partly due to one suspect’s history of evading law enforcement. A temporary shelter-in-place order was issued for nearby residents while officers carried out the operation.
An alert was posted on the SV Police, Fire, and EMS Facebook page, notifying the public.

Why Was SWAT Involved?
Sierra Vista Police say the decision to deploy SWAT wasn’t taken lightly.
In the press release, investigators expressed safety concerns for both responding officers and the public, citing “prior incidents involving one of the suspects.”
Local reporting from KGUN9 News reported that authorities often use enhanced resources like SWAT when there’s a potential risk of flight or escalation, even if the situation ends without the need for the use of force. In this case, those precautions appear to have paid off.

How Did the Situation End?
Thankfully, the situation ended peacefully, and the two individuals surrendered without incident; the shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly after the incident ended.
One suspect was on a failure-to-appear warrant out of Maricopa County. The second faces multiple charges, including unlawful flight, endangerment, and unlawful imprisonment, connected to a May 5 traffic stop when the suspect fled detectives and did not give the passenger a chance to exit the vehicle before fleeing.
Both suspects were booked into the Cochise County jail.
