According to a press release released by the City of Sierra Vista over the weekend, the Sierra Vista Police Department is looking for a person connected to a shooting that happened over the Memorial Day weekend.

Details Related to the Weekend Shooting in Sierra Vista

Sierra Vista police are working to track down a person of interest after a shooting that took place Sunday evening, May 24. Around 8:15 p.m.

Officers were first called to the 2300 block of Cherry Hills Drive after a report of shots fired at a residence. While officers were on their way to the location, a second 911 call came in from a man who said he had been shot. He told dispatchers he had left the scene and driven to a Circle K in the 2200 block of Buffalo Soldier Trail to get help.

SVPD: Responding to the Scene

Police treated both locations, the neighborhood on Cherry Hills Drive and the Circle K, as active crime scenes.

Officers secured the areas and began collecting evidence while investigators worked to understand how the situation unfolded. With two connected scenes and multiple calls coming in quickly, it became clear this was more than a random act or a coincidence.

What led up to the shooting?

According to investigators, the incident began as a planned gun sale between two men near Country Club Park.

The seller got into the buyer’s car to complete the deal, but things escalated. At some point, the seller stepped out of the vehicle and opened fire, hitting the victim twice. Even after being injured, the victim fired back while driving away to safety.

SVPD is Looking for a Suspect

The suspect fled the scene and has not been located. Police have identified 18-year-old Angel Valenzuela as a person of interest and would like to question him about the incident. The victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening, and investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.

According to police, the suspect fled and has not been located. Police are currently seeking Angel Valenzuela, and investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward.
