Cochise County Recorder’s Office Implements New Photo ID Requirement
The Cochise County Recorder’s Office is making procedural changes, according to an official county press release, which may affect you if you need to file official paperwork.
What a County Recorder Does
A county recorder's office maintains official public records that document important legal transactions and property rights. They typically record documents like property deeds, mortgages, liens, easements, subdivision plans, and other legal documents that affect real estate ownership. County recorders also handle voter registration.
These official documents are recorded to create a permanent public record, protect property rights, and ensure that future buyers, lenders, and others can verify ownership and other legal interests tied to a property.

Photo ID Now Required For In-Person Recording
If you’re heading to the Cochise County Recorder’s Office to record documents in person, there’s a new step to be aware of. Starting this month, customers must show a valid photo ID when submitting documents for in-person recording. According to LegiScan, the requirement comes from provisions in Arizona Senate Bill 1479.
The new law was enacted to reduce deed fraud, property title theft, and the use of forged real estate documents in Arizona. Katie Hobbs signed it into law on April 9, 2026, and it took effect September 11, 2026.
