We’ve all heard the phrase “See something, say something.” But what qualifies as something, and to whom should these things be reported?

I’m not trained in law enforcement, so if I were to see something suspicious, my first thought would be, “Should I report this… and if I do, will someone find out it was me?”

It’s a common concern. We want to help keep our neighborhoods safe, yet don’t want drama on our doorstep. It’s an even bigger worry in our small community, where just about everyone knows everyone else.

Which is why anonymous reporting matters. There are several reasons you might hesitate to call law enforcement if something looks off. Maybe you don’t want to be nosy, to be that person. Or maybe you’re afraid of retaliation and don’t want to get dragged into a case. Maybe you just don’t know who to call.

That’s where 88 CRIME comes in. With this system, you can report the information and let trained law enforcement personnel decide on the best way to handle it.

What Exactly Is 88 CRIME?

88 CRIME is an anonymous tip line for reporting serious crimes. The important point is that you can report a crime and still remain anonymous. You’ll never have to give your name or any identifiable information if you’re not comfortable doing so.

There are different ways you can report the information: call the local number (520) 882‑7463, submit a tip online, or use the P3Tips app.  You can even upload photos or videos through the website or app.

The system doesn’t capture any kind of personal information, use caller ID, or record calls. When you report a crime, you'll receive a tip number and a passcode, which you can use to follow up or add details.

Funding for the tipline isn’t coming from local taxpayer money; the program is free to the County and gives residents a safe, confidential way to share information to help solve crimes, with potential rewards of up to $2,500 provided by private donors.

Then, your tip goes straight to the right agency, whether that’s the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office or another department. You stay anonymous, and investigators get the information they need.

Why It Matters to Cochise County

Cochise County is vast. In an area as spread out as Cochise, residents are often the first to notice when something isn’t right. The program can quietly do a lot of heavy lifting by giving citizens a way to share what they know about serious crimes without ever putting their name on the line.

88 CRIME can become a force multiplier: residents can share what they know without risk, and agencies receive leads they might not otherwise get.

So now you know: if you see something, you can say something without fear of repercussions, and know you’re helping keep Cochise County safe.
