Will ADOT EVER Fix That Bad Stretch of Highway 90 in Cochise County? Here’s What We Know So Far
If you've taken that treacherous drive from the (usually closed) Border Patrol Checkpoint on Highway 90 into Sierra Vista, then made your way around Walmart, passed by Target, and then onto the hospital, you've probably noticed a few things.
The Risk of Losing a Tire on Highway 90 in Sierra Vista
First, there are ruts in the roadway deep enough to lose an axle or at least blow out a tire. In fact, I saw someone on a chit-chat social media site who asked if they could legally file a claim with the government because they'd lost a tire on that road.
Second, the state of Arizona has been teasing this information for a while. According to Sierra Vista City Councilman Gregory L. Johnson's Facebook page, ADOT had accepted a contractor bid to repair the road, but the contractor backed out and they had to begin again.

State Route 90 in Cochise County: When Will the Road Be Repaired?
Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) recently sent mailers to Cochise County residents with what appeared to be an update on the pavement rehabilitation project on State Route 90.
According to the flyer, construction is scheduled to begin in winter 2023/2024 and is expected to be completed by summer 2025.
But Will Highway 90 EVER Be Repaired?
According to Sierra Vista City Councilman Mark Rodriguez via Facebook, as of March 2023:
[The area] was re-surveyed and will be submitted and advertised for bid as one entire project so that two different contractors would not have two different timelines/starting points which could lead to major traffic problems."
Rodriguez added, "Hopefully ADOT will add the project to their website soon. This is long overdue!"
We agree. I, for one, can't wait to stop complaining about that bad road and start complaining about the road construction. Bring it on, ADOT!
