Can you imagine walking into a local business and loudly saying something really negative?

This is the worst business in all of Arizona! The staff is awful, my food was cold, and I can't believe they exist! I'm never going back!

Running a business is challenging, and these days, with all the negativity running unchecked across social media, it's even more difficult. Imagine someone trashing your dream, along with your blood, sweat, and tears, in the public square. I'm astonished that anyone still goes through the hassle of opening a business with that kind of negativity.

Then, on day one, the entire town comes crashing through your door all at once. As the unprepared staff desperately tries to keep up with demand, unforgiving customers become angry, take to social media, and declare that they will never return. Ever!

"Why didn't you speak with a manager if you were so unhappy?" some will ask. "Cut them some slack, they just opened," others will opine. As angry as you get with the Golden Arches, you still return. So, why can't you give some grace to the new mom and pop shop as they open their doors?

How Can We Cut New Businesses Some Slack?

Running a business in Arizona is tough enough, and in our small towns, word of mouth can make or break the dream.

Rather than hide behind a keyboard spewing anger for the world to see, why not speak to the manager? Perhaps we could cut the staff a little slack and understand that they're still getting their bearings? Give them a month or two, and they'll probably get things together!
