What Products Are Being Recalled?

Check your cabinets for DermaRite hand sanitizers and hygiene products. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded the recall of several over-the-counter products.

These hand sanitizers, soaps, and creams are being voluntarily recalled due to contamination with Burkholderia cepacia. According to the CDC, the bacterium, also known as B. cepacian or Bcc, can cause serious infections, including life-threatening sepsis.

The recall includes popular items like Gel Rite instant hand sanitizer and Hand E Foam; both products are commonly used in healthcare settings.

What Symptoms Does Burkholderia capacia Infection Cause?

If you have this hand sanitizer or any of the other products and you've used them, don't panic; healthy people may only experience mild skin irritation.

There could be real issues, however, for anyone with a weakened immune system. A patient fighting cancer, anyone with lung disease, or someone who's had a recent surgery may have a greater risk of bloodstream infections if they use these products.
