Drinks Sold in Arizona Laced with ‘Toxic’ Pesticide Part of Huge Recall

Check your pantry for this product. Another recall is being issued under the advice of the  United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for a voluntary recall of the East West Tea Company's Organic Yogi Echinacea Immune Support tea.

This popular brand is sold in stores across Arizona. The company is voluntarily recalling almost 900,000 teabags. The recall was activated because the USDA detected levels of pesticide residue that "surpassed established safety thresholds."

East West Tea Company took the voluntary recall measure to prevent the potential health risks associated with the pesticide.

The recall includes 54,000 boxes of the tea. The findings were discovered during a routine audit, which revealed the presence of the pesticides.

According to East West Tea Company, the pesticides don't pose a risk of harm or illness, but the levels were beyond their quality standards.

If you've purchased this tea, The East West Tea Company apologizes to consumers for the inconvenience. They're implementing enhanced testing procedures to make sure this doesn't happen again in the future.

If you purchased and drank this tea, there's some good news. The FDA lists this recall as Class III, which means it is “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product is not likely to cause adverse health consequences.”

The tea is sold nationwide at major retailers such as Safeway, Walmart, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Target, as well as health food stores.
