Now, the Cochise County Sheriff's office is proud to recognize Alan Wheeler (V-2) as the Volunteer of the Year. The CCSO says this is a heartfelt tribute to a man whose dedication and service have made a lasting impact on our community.

He can be found working across the county conducting patrol checks on vacation houses, supporting Neighborhood Watch patrols, managing and controlling traffic at accident scenes, and helping to evacuate residents during wildfires and evacuations.

Alan has always answered the call. He’s also led countless funeral escorts honoring our veterans, bringing dignity and respect to each ceremony.

V2 Alan Wheeler: 30 Years of Service

Alan’s background speaks volumes: 30 years in law enforcement and firefighting, a Marine door gunner in Vietnam, and a retired Sergeant Major in the Army Reserve.

According to John Black, SAT Commander, "Alan Wheeler's leadership and experience made him a natural fit as our Deputy Commander for Operations, a role he’s held for three years with distinction. He worked hard to revamp the department's operations manual and oversees daily logistics with precision and care."

With 4,803 volunteer hours under his belt, Alan’s commitment to Cochise County is, according to his peers, nothing short of extraordinary. His service reflects the very best of what it means to be a volunteer, and the department is honored to celebrate his contributions.
