When Arizona Roads Moonlight As Runways

Lately, my weeks have been a bit odd. For example, I once bought decaf by mistake for an entire month and only realized it when I started getting headaches. But that’s a story for another time.

That was strange, but Arizona recently had three small planes make emergency landings on public roads across the state. That takes things to a whole new level.

It’s definitely unusual, but there’s no need to look for a conspiracy. There’s no big aviation mystery here—just a string of unrelated mechanical problems and pilots handling tough situations as best they can.

Third Time’s The Charm… Or Something

Most recently, a single-engine plane landed on U.S. 60 near Superior. This was the third time in less than a month that a plane had landed on a roadway.

The good news is that no one was hurt. There was only a flattened traffic sign and some surprised drivers. Authorities said the plane had a malfunction, nothing unusual.

A Month Of “Well, That Wasn’t The Plan”

Earlier, a small training plane also landed unexpectedly on a street in Mesa, and again, no one was injured.

There was also a landing on a Phoenix street when a plane had mechanical trouble. That incident led to three minor injuries and a very relieved pilot.

So… A Pattern? Nope. Just Life Being Weird.

Sometimes three points make a pattern, but other times, they’re just three separate events. That’s what happened here: three strange incidents that aren’t connected.

Aviation officials haven’t found anything in common among these incidents. There’s no shared aircraft type, no shared cause, and no mysterious Bermuda Triangle over Arizona. It’s just a coincidence, bringing together a bit of chaos and curiosity.

Is Arizona Becoming a Pop-Up Runway?

So no, Arizona isn’t becoming the nation’s hottest pop‑up, ad-hoc runway. It’s just been a quirky month. I’m just grateful everyone walked away from this high (low, middle?) strangeness.
