What To Expect At 111th Sonoita Labor Day Rodeo

I still remember my first trip to the Sonoita Labor Day Rodeo. There was dust hanging in the late-summer air, the sound of boots on metal bleachers, and so much simmering excitement sweeping through the crowd. Every time that chute gate opened, the anticipation was almost palpable. It's one of those Arizona traditions that I look forward to every year.

I'm always excited when Labor Day weekend rolls around. The Sonoita Labor Day Rodeo returns in 2026. This is the rodeo’s 111th year, continuing a tradition that dates back more than a century.

A Labor Day Weekend Tradition

Known as the"Best Little Rodeo in Arizona," the Sonoita Labor Day Rodeo will take place September 5, 6, and 7, 2026, at the Sonoita Fairgrounds. Gates open daily at 10 a.m.

The event is a tradition as one of the longest-running rodeos in Arizona. It’s a feast for the senses that celebrates our state's ranching heritage, western traditions, and community spirit.

Rodeo Events for All Ages

The Junior Rodeo begins at noon each day, followed by the main rodeo performance at 2 p.m.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a longtime rodeo fan or if this is your very first rodeo; you'll find plenty to enjoy, from barrel racing and roping events, and you will not want to miss the adrenaline rush of the bull riding competition.

Young rodeo fans can participate in Junior Rodeo events to get a taste of the excitement.

Special Days

Each day of the rodeo highlights a special group or cause:

Saturday: First Responder Appreciation Day
Sunday: Tough Enough to Wear Pink
Monday: Military Appreciation Day, with $10 admission for guests with a valid military ID

Steak Fry, Dancing, and Live Music

The fun doesn't end when the rodeo wraps up for the day.

Don’t miss out on the popular Steak Fry and Dance on both Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The steak fry is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by live music beginning at 7 p.m. This year's entertainment features Southern Rein on Saturday and Zander Rodriguez on Sunday.

Concessions, vendors, and merchandise will be available on-site throughout the weekend.
