Surprisingly, She Found THIS at a Lavender Festival in Sonoita
Lately, I've been on a quest for peace and serenity. My overscheduled busy-ness needed a break, and I found it in the most unexpected and lovely place.
Sonoita is well-known for its rolling hills and home-grown Arizona wines. I'm now beginning to think of peace and serenity as a capstone of this beautiful area.
The Lavender Harvest Festival at Wild Oak Farm
My friend and I were looking for something different to do. When we get together, we typically grab a bite or do some shopping, but we've been looking at ways to mix things up. She found the Lavender Harvest Festival at Wild Oak Farms on Facebook, and we decided to give it a try.

Tickets for the one-day event were very reasonably priced and covered admission to the event, plus a tour of the farm and the petting zoo. The weather was considerably cooler in Sonoita, and the gentle breeze under the big oak tree made for a pleasant day.
Lunch was available for purchase from The Garden Kitchen, a seed-to-table urban farm run by the Cooperative Extension in Tucson. They offered several lavender-themed treats, like Lavender Lemon Shortbread cookies, lavender lemonade, as well as chia pudding and burritos. We also strolled through the country store where we shopped for lavender sachets, soaps made from goat's milk, and other artisan crafts.

The Gentle Joy of Wild Oak Farm in Sonoita
We were greeted by Leo, Wild Oak Farm's Great Pyrenees and self-appointed farm ambassador. Owner Muriel Gardner made the rounds, greeting guests with a smile and making sure everyone was comfortable. "I wanted this to be a calming, peaceful event for families and people of all ages to enjoy." Looking around, I assured her she'd hit the mark.
Harpist Dr. Christine Vivona added to the ambiance, as gentle strains of music floated through the fields. Folks of all ages attended, and everyone was having a great time. Families with small children made their way into the lavender field to collect bouquets of fragrant lavender.
Sonoita Vineyards Blesses the Vines
Kids squealed with joy as they met goats, chickens, and horses face-to-face in the petting zoo. Older adults with wheelchairs and walkers were able to attend, and everyone seemed to enjoy the fresh air and peaceful setting.
Sonoita, Arizona's Wild Oak Farm Airbnb, Yoga, Meditation
Murial mentioned that the farm is also a very popular Airbnb that specializes in "glamping", with well-appointed yurts, RVs, and cottages that can be rented for a stay in beautiful, peaceful Sonoita.
Wild Oak Farm also hosts regular yoga, sound bath, and meditation. If you're looking for peace and beauty, check out the Wild Oak Farm website; they're located at 26560 S. Old Sonoita Hwy, Sonoita.
We had a beautiful day at the Lavender Harvest Festival, and both agreed we will be returning soon!
