This is not the kind of top-twenty ranking you want to land in. According to a study by the Parrish Law Firm, Arizona comes in as the 16th deadliest state for truck drivers.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), in 2022 there were 2,760 big rig crashes, 111 of which were fatal.

Here’s the result of the analysis:

  • For every million miles driven in Arizona, there were 1.18 truck driver deaths.
  • That’s more than twice the rate of the 14 safest states and over five times the rate of the safest state, Maine, which had only 0.21 deaths per million miles driven.

While Arizona’s truck driver fatality rate is cause for concern, the Grand Canyon State is still less than half the rate of the most dangerous state—our neighbor to the east, New Mexico.
