Here’s Why Some in Arizona Will Skip Valentine’s Day Altogether
Okay, real talk: I’ve never really been big on Valentine’s Day. It’s nothing personal, it’s just not my thing. I get why some people love it, so I decided to check out what Arizona is up to this year, regarding the annual love holiday.
I’m not the only one opting out. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend a record $27.5 billion on Valentine’s Day this year, highlighting just how commercial the holiday has become.

Valentine’s Day Spending Setting Records This Year
Younger couples still spend the most, according to the website Coupon Follow. If you’ve been together less than a year, you might shell out about $150. Long-term couples usually keep it closer to $100.
As you might have guessed, Valentine’s Day is big business. Not everyone is as cynical as I am, because Americans are expected to spend a record $27.5 billion on Valentine’s Day this year, according to the National Retail Federation.
That’s a lot of money to plan a dinner, gifts, and an experience. There are some who think like me, and they’re looking forward to a chill night in. Nearly half of Americans say their dream gift is just hanging out at home, and 43% would rather have an experience than something you can wrap up. This is definitely a vibe I can relate to.

Why Some Arizonans Are Skipping the Holiday
Not everyone is feeling the love this year, though. A lot of us are planning to skip the holiday for the usual reasons: prices keep going up, everyone’s a little tired of holidays, and let’s be real, love shouldn’t come with a receipt.
With 46% of Americans saying higher prices make Valentine’s Day tough to celebrate, it's no surprise that a lot of us are choosing to stay in or celebrate on a different day.

Arizona: The Real Reason to Love February 14th
Whether you’re all about the hearts and flowers or (like me) just not that into it, Valentine’s Day in Arizona should be pretty laid-back. If you’re celebrating, keep it simple and enjoy yourself.
You can always celebrate Arizona’s real February 14th holiday: our state’s birthday! Arizona became the 48th and last continental state admitted to the union on February 14th, 1912.
