Construction Delays Coming to Sierra Vista’s Busiest Intersection
The only thing worse than a road that needs construction is a road under construction.
We've been begging ADOT to fix the cratered road between Target and Food City for years. While the construction is coming along, a bigger issue will cause some delays and snarled traffic for a few weeks.
Highway 90 Repairs AKA The BAD Road in Front of TARGET & FRY's
Road Construction in Sierra Vista
Make plans now to avoid the busiest intersection in Cochise County, at least for the next two-and-a-half weeks.
Beginning on April 7, 2025, the Fry Boulevard, Highway 90/92 intersection will be closed as the City of Sierra Vista repairs the sewer lines underneath the street.

Why the City of Sierra Vista is Closing the Intersection
The city is closing this part of Fry Boulevard so crews can repair a sewer line. The road will be closed from the TacoBell/Schlotzsky's parking lot and the Highway 90/92 intersection.

According to a press release from the City of Sierra Vista, the city is replacing a sagging clay sewer interceptor to prevent environmental hazards and property damage.
The press release reports, "Failure of this sewer interceptor could create environmental hazards and cause damage to residential and commercial properties."
Expect Delays: Highway 90/92 and Fry Boulevard
If you're driving in that area, you'll be able to get through but expect delays. Find an alternative route, for example, Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway and Avenida Escuela.
You'll be able to access most of the businesses in that area, but the entrance near Chase Bank on Highway 92 will be closed to traffic. You should be able to take the north entrance near Schlotzsky's if you need to get to the bank.
The closure begins the week of March 31. There will be a short delay at the Highway 90/92 intersection as crews switch the traffic signal to a new uninterruptable power supply and service meter. The Sierra Vista Police Department will be on-site to direct traffic during this switch.
If you use Vista Transit, the Pink Transit route will have 40-minute service intervals instead of the usual 30-minute intervals. Transit service at the Sonic Transit stop will be suspended until construction is completed.
Fixing the BAD Road After this Fix
This city is working to fix this part of the road and upgrade the traffic signal before the Arizona Department of Transportation's (ADOT's) State Route 90 pavement project reaches the intersection.
