MIXUP: Arizona Boy Becomes A Light For Shooting Victim
There's nothing more pure than a child's heart. The love and compassion they feel so endlessly seems almost foreign to those who have found themselves jaded by the years.
One Arizona boy is finally getting his good karma, and it's all thanks to someone who doesn't even know he exists.
Weird Messages
12 year old Lincoln was on top of the world a few months ago. He finally got what every kid dreams of these days: his very own cell phone. His mom activated the phone with a new number, and they didn't think anymore of it.
That is, until Labor Day weekend, when hundreds of messages began flooding his phone, all with the same common thread: "Get better soon". Messages were coming from all over the world, and neither Lincoln nor his mother had any idea what was happening. This went on for about three days, until Lincoln told an anonymous texter that they had the wrong number.
Then the pieces fell into place.
Ricky Pearsall's Survival
The texts, coming from no one the family could track down, had been mistaken. They were intended for San Francisco 49ers Wide Receiver Ricky Pearsall, who was shot on August 31st, just days ahead of the NFL season kickoff. Pearsall, who played college football at ASU (before transferring to my beloved Florida Gators), had gotten a new phone number after his journey to the sunshine state, and his old number fell right into Lincoln's hands.
Lincoln began responding to every text, hoping that Ricky would hear the story, and see the love and support coming not just from his friends who had the wrong number, but from Lincoln and his family.
Ricky Pearsall is recovering quickly, and looks to make his first career NFL start against the Jets on September 9th.
