What is Salmonella and What are the Symptoms?
Salmonella bacteria is typically found in human or animal intestines and shed through fecal matter. When humans become infected, it's most often through contaminated water or food exposure.
It's not uncommon for someone infected with salmonella to show no symptoms of illness. Most people develop stomach cramps, fever, and diarrhea, which usually appear between eight and seventy-two hours after exposure.
Healthy people usually get better after a few days without any special treatment. One of the biggest risks is dehydration.
If diarrhea and dehydration become severe, I.V. fluids may be needed. Salmonella can cause life-threatening complications, so seeking medical attention as soon as possible is important.

The FDA Issues Urgent Recall of Chia Seeds Sold at Walmart
Unlike eggs and chicken, chia seeds are typically eaten raw. That means the bacteria won't be destroyed by cooking, as it often is when preparing poultry products. This adds to an increased risk of infection.
Because of this, the FDA classified this as a Class I risk. This means there is a "high probability of serious adverse health consequences or death."
The recall applies to Great Value Organic Chia Seeds sold in 32-ounce packages in Walmart stores. The product can be identified by these lot codes and best-by dates:
