Discount Chains in Arizona
Every time we turn around, another discount store seems to pop up across Arizona neighborhoods. Whenever one store is planted, two more spring up, seemingly overnight.
Many Arizonans live in rural areas. Discount chains like Family Dollar and Dollar General have allowed shoppers to pick up essential goods without making the longer trek "into town" to visit the grocery store or another retail outlet.

Too Many Stores in Arizona?
Dollar Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, just announced plans to close 1,000 stores across its ecosystem. If you rely on one of these stores for your quick trip, there's good news: the closures won't happen all at once.
According to their website, there are currently 88 Family Dollar stores in Arizona. As this plan is rolled out, the company hasn't announced plans to close any of these stores or how many might be affected.
About 600 stores nationwide will close over the first half of this year. ABC13 reports that the stores are trying to improve profitability over the next few years. Hundreds more will close over the next few years as store leases expire.
Dollar Stores: A New Way to Shop
With the sudden saturation of discount stores, even in rural areas, if your favorite store closes, you won't have far to drive for convenience and good deals. Even though Family Dollar is tightening its belt, other discount vendors will surely rise to fill the void across Arizona.
