These 10 Dangerous Cults Still Exist in Arizona
One of the most notorious examples of a cult was the People's Temple, which came to an ominous and tragic end on November 18th, 1978, in Jonestown, Guyana.
Infamous cult leader Jim Jones encouraged more than 900 of his followers to drink poison mixed into a beverage called "Flavor Aid," a Kool-Aid alternative. The expression "drinking the Kool-Aid" has been used to refer to anyone who accepts a doctrine without question (and, I suspect, to one's detriment).
These Groups are Considered Cults and They're in Arizona
A cult is usually defined as:
"A group or movement with a shared commitment, usually adhering to an extreme ideology. A charismatic leader often leads the cult. Cults can be religious, political, or social, and they often exert significant control over their members' lives, including their beliefs, behaviors, and relationships."

Once a person joins a cult, it's usually extremely difficult or even impossible to leave. The groups are masters in psychological manipulation, and their leaders and members use fear and isolation to maintain control over their members.

These close-knit systems demand the inductee cut ties with anyone outside the cult so it can become a member's sole support. The pressure is on individuals to believe they won't survive outside the group.
Cults in Arizona
Arizona is home to several organizations that usually operate under the guise of religion. A few groups on this list are world-famous, with members spanning the globe. Others are extremely secretive; I couldn't find much information beyond a tax-exempt record and a post office box.
