What Does a Detention Officer Do?
Detention officers manage inmates. They'll control and supervise their movements and work to ensure the safety of other inmates and officers. Detention officers assist with the in-processing and release of inmates and transport them to and from detention facilities.
Other duties include supervising visitations between inmates and members of the public, guarding inmates during work assignments, and conducting inventories.

Many deputies at the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office begin their careers working as a Detention Officer.
Detention Officers are qualified to apply starting at age 18, and you can apply to become a Deputy at 21 years old.
