Some AZ Taxpayers Will Get $1400 In Unclaimed Stimulus Money
If it seems like all we talk about is rising prices, here's a little relief for your pocketbook: you could be getting a check from the IRS.
The IRS is sending out unclaimed stimulus money, which means you and your family could be in for a nice surprise - just in time for the holidays.
If you missed out on the Recovery Rebate Credit back in 2021, you could be getting a check for up to $1,400. Finally, a little good news!
Why Could Arizona Taxpayers Get a Check from the IRS?
So, why is the IRS suddenly sending out stimulus checks?
If you remember, during the pandemic, with jobs and livelihoods in jeopardy, Congress approved stimulus payments. The extra cash was aimed at helping everyone out. As it turns out, though, some people didn't claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns. The IRS noticed this and decided to step in and make things right.
How Much Money is the IRS Returning to Taxpayers?
In total, the IRS is sending out a whopping $2.4 billion to about 1 million taxpayers across the country.

In Arizona, around 20,000 households could be getting a little extra cash. The best part? You don't have to do anything to get it. If you qualify, the IRS will automatically send you a payment, either by direct deposit or paper check. The money could hit your bank account or mailbox as early as the last week of December. Most of us will see the money by late January.
Are You on the List?
If you can't remember claiming the stimulus credit, you can check to see if you're on the list. Watch your mailbox because the IRS will send you a separate letter to let you know if you're getting a payment. If you didn't file your 2021 taxes, you still have a chance to claim this credit by filing back-year returns by April 15, 2025.
