Arizona, Your Computer May Not Work After October 14th
If your computer’s been chugging along on Windows 10, Microsoft just made an announcement that could affect you.
Your PC or laptop might hit a wall after October 14, 2025. That’s the day Microsoft officially ends support for Windows 10, meaning no more security updates, bug fixes, or technical support will be available.
Will My Computer Still Work on Windows 10?
There's a little bit of good news: your computer won’t suddenly stop working in October, but it’ll be more vulnerable to viruses and cyber threats. It's a little like driving a car with expired insurance: risky and not recommended.
What Can I Do to Protect My PC?
I don't have to tell you about the danger of cyber threats. If you're not connecting your computer to the internet, you're probably okay, but there aren't many people who don't use the internet these days. The best way to protect your PC and make sure you can continue to use it is to upgrade to Windows 11.

How Do I Upgrade My Computer?
First, check to see if your computer can upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft has a handy PC Health Check tool that tells you if your device meets the requirements.
Here's the nerd news: you’ll need a compatible processor, TPM 2.0, and Secure Boot enabled.
The PC Health Check tool will report the results for your machine. If your machine doesn’t make the cut, your options are:
- Buy a new PC
- Stick with Windows 10 and beef up your antivirus software
- Explore an alternative operating system, like Linux
If that last thing makes sense to you, then you probably don't need this information anyway. Here's a hint: if you call your nephew for tech support, the last item may not be your best option.

Microsoft will still offer Extended Security Updates for a fee, but that’s mostly for businesses. For everyday users, upgrading is the safest bet.
Not sure where to start? Visit Microsoft’s Windows 11 page for upgrade information, call your nephew, or visit a professional for help. Places like Best Buy or Staples in Sierra Vista can run compatibility checks and even handle the upgrade for you.
