Impending USPS Rate Hike Will Cost You More, Arizona
Inflation is hitting yet another part of our economy. The United States Post Office is planning to increase rates again, which means mailing letters and postcards in Arizona is about to get even more expensive.
USPS Proposed Postage Rate Increase
The U.S. Postal Service is set to raise postage rates again. If the rates are approved, the cost of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp will jump from 73 cents to 78 cents. This 5-cent increase is just the beginning; other mailing services will also see a rate increase.

USPS Mailing Items that Will Increase Under the New Rate Structure
Metered letters (1 ounce) will jump from 69 cents to 74 cents, and the cost to send domestic postcards is also rising. It will go up from 56 cents to 62 cents. Sending a postcard overseas? International postcards and letters (1 ounce) will both increase from $1.65 to $1.70.
The USPS Has New Policy When You Change Your Address in Arizona
The additional ounce price for single-piece letters is also going up. Here's a rundown from the USPS website outlining many of the new postage rates:
PRODUCT | CURRENT PRICE | PLANNED PRICE |
Letters (1 ounce) | .73 ¢ | .78 ¢ |
Letters (metered 1 ounce) | .69 ¢ | .74 ¢ |
Domestic postcards | .56¢ | .62 ¢ |
International postcards | $1.65 | $1.70 |
International letter (1 ounce) | $1.65 | $1.70 |
When Will the New USPS Postage Prices Take Effect?
The new rates are scheduled to take effect in mid-July. The post office has announced a target date of July 13th. If you want to save some money before the 7 percent increase kicks in, it's time to stock up on Forever Stamps.
There is a small silver lining: the rates for postal insurance are going to drop by 12%. The USPS maintains that these price changes are necessary to "maintain financial stability and keep up with evolving mailing trends."
