Every year, I look forward to the excitement and drama of the monsoon season. It's one of my favorite things about living in Arizona.

I get so much joy from watching the summer skies all day. I monitor the big, fluffy clouds as they roll over the mountains.

They grow, expand, and fill the sky with shadows and magical light. Peels of thunder rumble in the distance. The birds hold their breath. Lightening streaks then crackles across the sky. When all goes to plan, the thirsty earth drinks in the much-needed summer shower.

However, even as the dramatic curtain of color fills the sky, there's still a question: will the clouds unleash a deluge or think better of it and blow away? The skies often tease us but don't always deliver on their promise of rain.

What Will This Year's Monsoon Season Bring to Arizona?

It's hard to predict what this year's monsoon season will be like in Arizona. I've learned that you can't use last year as a guide - because a ton of things contribute to the length, strength, and scope of Arizona's summer rainy season.

The Old Farmer's Almanac made its prediction for Arizona's summer. If you're a fan of consistent summer moisture, there's a good chance you'll be disappointed.

They're predicting that this monsoon season will experience "near to slightly below normal rainfall."

We didn't get too much rain. We got a slow, steady stream of "just enough precipitation." There were even whispers that year that Arizona had managed to overcome the persistent drought for the first time in ages.

Ahh, those were the days. Sadly, if the Almanac is correct, this year's monsoon could be a sad disappointment.
