Arizona's Native Tribes Cover More Land
Another prominent tribe is the Tohono O'odham Nation, which is located in the southern part of the state. The Tohono O'odham reservation is around 4,446 square miles and stretches through the Tohono O'odham, San Xavier, and San Lucy districts. This tribe has a deep connection to the desert environment and its rich cultural heritage.
The Hopi Tribe calls northeastern Arizona home. The Hopi reservation is completely surrounded by the Navajo Nation and covers about 2,500 square miles. The Hopi community has a long history of agriculture, art, and spirituality.
The Gila River Indian Community is near Phoenix and covers about 580 square miles. The Akimel O'odham (Pima) and Pee-Posh (Maricopa) tribes are both found here. This community works diligently to preserve traditional practices.
