I like to think we're pretty friendly in Arizona. There are towns made up entirely of people from ELSEWHERE (looking at you Sierra Vista and Fort Huachuca).

We've got towns that exist mostly to attract and host tourists, like the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Bisbee, and Tombstone, to name a few. Plus, towns where our major colleges have a big footprint, are places like Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff.

You'd think we'd be an example the world over for Gracious Western Hospitality™. (It's not actually trademarked, but I wish it was at least bookmarked here in the 'Zone.)

For the most part, we are pretty friendly. With such diverse populations and visitors from all over the world, we strive to make our welcome - well, welcoming.

You Ain't From Around These Parts

Since a lot of people are currently pulling up stakes and moving to Arizona, you'd think we'd be used to greeting outsiders with open arms. It turns out, according to a recent survey, there's one Arizona city that doesn't quite embrace our Gracious Western Hospitality™.

Preply.com recently surveyed over 1,500 residents living in the 30 largest metropolitan areas, only to discover that one Arizona city ranked in the top 15 rudest. What's worse, those polled were residents of the city! So this city's own residents were casting it in a bad light.

Just How Rude Are We?

In order to gauge perceived rudeness, the survey asked for opinions on some of the most common rude behaviors. For example, refusing to let others merge into traffic, people who ignore others while they're absorbed in their phones, and being noisy in shared spaces.

The one Arizona city that came up on the hot list? Phoenix.

In fact, it ranked at number 11 out of 15 top rudest cities in the nation, according to respondents.

Rudeness Ranking

The brashness of New York City is world-famous, but the City of Brotherly Love - Philadelphia - taking the number one spot as the rudest city in America? Suddenly, I'm not quite so embarrassed for Phoenix!
