Are These Arizona’s Top 5 Worst and Weirdest Tourist Traps?
Road Trippin' in Arizona
If you're on a road trip through Arizona, anyway, it's fun to stop at these Tourist Traps. But that's what they are: TRAPS.
It's fun to say you've been to these places, but don't plan a whole adventure around them. You may be disappointed.
The Thing Museum: There are MILES of signs asking you to stop and see The Thing. If you make it to Benson and decide to stop, it's entertaining enough if you just need to stretch your legs and rest.
Located at the Bowlin Travel Center in Benson, the whole place has a modernized side-show feel to it. It's not too expensive to get in, but the payoff may not be worth a drive out of your way.
Tombstone: This Wild West town, the Town Too Tough to Die, is known for its reenactments of the infamous 30-second shootout at the OK Corral.
Once you've strolled up one side of Allen Street, then back down the other, there's not much more to do. Pick up some souvenirs for the folks back home, but that's pretty much all of it. If you want a deeper explanation of the history, stagecoach, but don't spend longer than a day there.
Winslow, Arizona: Remember the song, "Take It Easy" by the Eagles? If you're singing the song in your head now, it's worth driving through Winslow.
You can take a photo Standing on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona, as the song goes. Yes, it's on the famous Route 66, but that's about all there is to do in Winslow. Once you have your pic posted to your socials, it's time to move on.
Grand Canyon Skywalk: Located in Hualapai Reservation, on the rim of the Grand Canyon, this lass bridge extends over the edge and you can peer down into the canyon floor.
If you're not too put off by heights, this is worth a look, but only for a short time. If you're going to the Grand Canyon anyway, be sure to stop. But don't go out of your way.
Bedrock City: This campground resembles the fictional cartoon town of Bedrock from The Flintstones cartoon.
It has a replica volcano, a saloon, a post office, a police station, and, of course, a brontosaurus. This may be one of Arizona's quirkiest tourist traps. It's fun to visit if you're a fan of the cartoon. Located in Williams, Arizona.
