- These towns have a lot to offer growing families.
Arizona's Wild West reputation is behind us. If you're looking for a safe and peaceful place to live and raise a family, you might consider settling in one of these top places.
Combining the beauty of the desert, small-town charm, and convenient access to urban centers, these three towns rank among the safest in the state, according to Safewise.com.
Paradise Valley
Paradise Valley doesn't sit in a valley. You'll find the town in Maricopa County outside of Phoenix between the McDowell and Camelback mountains.
You'll also find some of Arizona's most famous residents living there. Rockers Alice Cooper and Poison's Bret Michaels call Paradise Valley home, and the author of the Outlander series of books also has a residence there.
You don’t have to be a celebrity to enjoy live in Paradise Valley. The town is surrounded by scenic views, luxurious resorts, golf courses, and the low crime rate.
Paradise Valley is rated as Arizona's safest city. As Ramsey Solutions reports, Paradise Valley is Arizona's safest city. In 2023, there were only 27 violent crimes and 186 property crimes.
Thatcher
Less city, more rural. If you like a more rural, laid-back life, consider living in Thatcher. Famous for its agriculture, this Gila Valley community is not only friendly, it's home to Eastern Arizona College, the state's oldest community college.
Thatcher rates high on the safety scale, reporting 49 violent crimes and 132 property crimes in 2023. The natural beauty of Mount Graham and Roper Lake State Park is close by, bringing nature to your doorstep.
Gilbert
One of Arizona's fastest-growing towns in Maricopa County, Gilbert is the best of suburban living with close access to the great Phoenix metro area.
Gilbert is a good place to raise a family, with a nice balance between urban and suburban living. Close by, you'll find the Riparian Preserve, the Hale Centre Theatre, the Heritage District, and the Gilbert Farmers Market.
Despite its growing size, the town reported 70 violent crimes and 1,324 property crimes last year. Overall, Gilber is a very safe place to put down roots in Arizona.
