1. Coolidge

The small city of Coolidge is located about 50 miles southeast of Phoenix. The growing but still small population sits right around 13,000.

On average, rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Coolidge is about $1,118 per month. This figure is quite a bit below the state and national averages.

If you're considering purchasing a new home, you're going to be happy with this information. The cost of a home compared to the income ratio is also very low, at 2.30. So, buying a house in Coolidge is also affordable.

Coolidge is rich in history and culture. It's home to the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, which preserves the remains of an ancient Native American civilization.

Coolidge is located within an hour each way between Tucson and Phoenix, creating easy access to either city, without the expense of living there.

2. Apache Junction

Apache Junction is another city near Phoenix, located at the base of the Superstition Mountains. With a population of around 42,000 and an average rent of $1,097 for a one-bedroom apartment, this slightly larger city has all the amenities, but at a lower cost than the larger metropolitan areas.

Apache Junction's home price-to-income ratio is 2.31, making it a favorable locale for homebuyers. Lost Dutchman State Park, the Tonto National Forest, and the Goldfield Ghost Town are all close to this vibrant, growing community.

3. Litchfield Park

Phoenix suburb Litchfield Park has a population of about 6,000. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment runs around $1,152.

While the price tag is a little higher than Apache Junction or Coolidge, compared to other cities in Arizona, this is still a very reasonable place to live. The home price-to-income ratio is 3.38, which is moderate but not too high.
