El Paso doesn't get super cold during winter but if you want to experience "real" winter temps, here are the best places to go in the southwest.
El Paso has a really mild winter, New Year's Eve, 2024, we're looking at a high temp in the low 70's. People here in the Borderland could almost throw New Years Eve pool parties.
It's really nice but sometimes I do miss having "real" winters. Easy enough to find though as we're only a 2 hour drive from "real" winter, complete with snow and winter activities like skiing and snowboarding.
That would be in Ruidoso. We're about the same distance from Silver City who also get a real winter except there's no ski resort. If you just want to "chill" and forget the record breaking summer we just survived, here's where you can get the coldest.

As far as New Mexico goes, you will find the lowest, average, temps in Clayton, New Mexico. The average annual temperature in Clayton is 54 degrees with an average daily high of 67 and an average daily low of 40.3. The state's record low, - 50, was set in Gavilan in 1951.
What Is The Coldest Place In Arizona?
The grand canyon state gets the heaters out early in Flagstaff. They average 46.2 degrees with average daily highs of 60.8 degrees and average lows of 31.7 degrees. Their record low was -40, set at Hawley Lake in 1971.
What Is The Coldest Place In Texas?
The lone star states' chilly willy isn't really in the southwest. Being that we're huge, Texas' coldest city is 438 miles from El Paso. Amarillo has an annual, average temp of 57.3 degrees, average daily maxes of 70.9 degrees and average lows of 43.8 degrees.
