A Ghostly Presence: The Superstition Freeway
Traveling through the dark patches of desert in the dead of night, it's easy to imagine a ghostly presence taking the passenger seat in your vehicle. Especially if you're driving the Superstition Freeway. The name alone raises the hairs on the back of your neck.
Part of the mystery and allure of the Old West, the Superstition Freeway is a stretch of US 60 which runs through Maricopa County.

Named after the mysterious Superstition Mountains that rise up across the area, even in the bustling metropolitan Phoenix area, the mountain range holds secrets. >egends of lost mines and the possibility of untold riches persist throughout the area, for those brave enough to look.
Is the Superstition Freeway Haunted?
The Superstition Freeway is named after the nearby Superstition Mountains. With a spooky name like that, it wouldn't be a surprise if there were some "lady in white" ghost stories floating around.

Sadly, it seems to be a fairly mundane route. As far as we know, the Superstition Freeway itself isn’t haunted, but it may be a gateway to Arizona's storied past.
Nearby Goldfield is now a ghost town. The area sits at the foothills of the Superstition Mountains and was once a hub of activity for prospectors and fortune-seekers hoping to crack the mystery of the Lost Dutchman’s gold mine.

There's not much left beyond rumor and legend. If you listen carefully while driving the Superstition Freeway, you might catch a note of the Old West right before you stop for gas at a modern rest area.
