‘Latest Victim’ of DOGE Cuts: Arizona Cancer Research
There's an exciting new technology to fight cancer, and it's in the works right here in Arizona. However, with DOGE cuts and financial instability taking the focus, it's hard to know if this will come to fruition.
Project CAMI
The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies (CAMI) plans to build a research facility in Phoenix.
Educators Concerned About Trump Education Funding Cut in Arizona
Project CAMI is an ambitious project that will work to advance biomedical research. The project will focus on the fields of immunology and molecular therapies.

Plans are being made to build a Project Cami at the Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC). The planned facility will be a seven-story, 200,000-square-foot building to be located at East Fillmore Street and 7th Street in the heart of downtown Phoenix.
If everything goes as planned, they'll be able to house up to 40 research groups, making it a hub for cutting-edge research and innovation.
DOGE Cuts Could Be Devastating for Arizona Veterans
CAMI could attract top-tier researchers who can work toward addressing some of the biggest challenges in healthcare. They're looking at innovative therapies for cancer, infectious diseases, and autoimmune conditions.
Could CAMI Be in Danger? Enter DOGE and UA Financial Troubles
A snag has hit the cutting-edge research planned for CAMI. The construction of the facility has been put on hold due to funding uncertainties. The Trump administration's budget cuts and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have created a lot of financial uncertainty.
To be clear, DOGE has not directly affected this project yet. They have started cutting federal research funding, which CAMI was leaning on as a significant financial source. The University of Arizona has also experienced financial struggles in the last few years.
Support for the Facility in Phoenix
The Phoenix City Council and Maricopa County have already provided significant support. The city approved over $20 million in funding. The University of Arizona is also contributing funds, but the future of the CAMI facility remains uncertain until the additional funding issues are resolved.
DOGE Cuts Could Be Devastating for Arizona Veterans
This Arizona facility could be a game-changer for future therapies. The project is on hold for now, but the stakeholders are working hard to find ways to complete it.
