Not every city in Arizona is as sunny as the weather report suggests, especially if you factor in safety. Several recent reports examined some of America's safest and least safe cities, and several locations in Arizona dotted the list—both good and not-so-good.

The Safest Cities in Arizona

If you plan to pick up your laptop and your home and move to Arizona, a recent report by Safewise listed San Luis as the safest city in Arizona two years in a row. The town has a mere violent crime rate of only .5 incidents per 1,000 people and 5.6 property crimes per 1,000 people.

Gilbert, Oro Valley, Queen Creek, and Sahuarita are other towns that get high marks for safety. Each of these cities has seen a decline in violent crime.

Arizona's More Dangerous Cities

On the flip side, some Arizona cities have a less stellar record for safety. Globe, Holbrook, Page, Tolleson, and Winslow frequently top the list of the most dangerous cities in our state.

Of Arizona's larger metropolitan areas, Tucson's high violent crime rate is daunting, with about 656 violent crimes per 100,000 residents. If safety is your prime concern, Tucson may not be your first choice.
