Is it True? Is This Craft Store Coming to Cochise County?
There's always so much buzz around a new store in a small town. Even if that new store is an old store. Or, more accurately, a returning store.
Crafting Tumbleweeds
There was once a time when Cochise County had a dearth of craft stores. There was a small, locally owned place called Crafted Luxuries. It had a range of supplies from cake decorating to paper crafting to quilting. Because it was a small shop, it had a tiny but loyal following.
It was a place to gather and learn new skills, like knitting or crocheting. There were bigger projects, like quilting and sewing, with experts who had spent decades perfecting their skills, and were sound and engaging teachers.
Feeling Crafty
Shortly before Michael's store closed its doors in Sierra Vista for the last time, Cochise County's only alternative choices were Walmart or Target stores.
Then, a giant in the world of craft stores and hobbies came to town. Michael's Arts & Crafts spent a small amount of time in Sierra Vista. And crafters rejoiced.
There were rumors both positive and negative when Michael's pulled anchor and left Sierra Vista, leaving us with little more than the expanded Walmart craft section for a time.
Craftiness Pays
As the population of Sierra Vista and the surrounding area has begun to increase, Hobby Lobby and Joann's stores have moved in to add to the crafting possibilities. Fabric, notions, arts, and crafts - not to mention an array of seasonal decorations have given us the choices the crafty citizens of Southeastern Arizona have been craving.
Michael's Arts and Crafts is Returning to Cochise County
With the recent announcement that Michael's plans to return to Cochise County, setting up shop in the current Beale's location just a short hop away from Hobby Lobby, it's got me wondering if Cochise County is ready for three powerhouses in the crafting world, and in such close proximity.
There's no official word yet, but as of this writing, Michael's is planning to open sometime next year.
