The Cochise College Foundation wants to make college accessible and affordable to everyone. They're on a mission to promote student success through scholarships, facility development, and program support.

Denise Hoyas from the Cochise College Foundation joined our local radio show, First Watch with Sheriff Mark Dannels on 92.3 KWCD last week to discuss a way the public can help with this challenge throughout the month of March.

The Mission of the Cochise College Foundation

According to Hoyas, "The Cochise College Foundation is a nonprofit organization [that] handles contributions in support of students and the college. We deal with scholarships and things like that."

The Pathway to $150K Challenge to Support Cochise College

Hoyas explained that the annual Pathway to $150K Challenge is now in its fourth year.

Beginning during the COVID shutdown in 2020, the challenge continues to operate as a virtual run, walk, or cycle that raises money for senior scholarships.

The scholarships are offered to students graduating from high school, high school seniors who come to college right away, and nontraditional students - returning adults who've been away from college or education for a year or more.

How to Participate in the Challenge

This is still a virtual event, and it's a great way to jump-start fitness goals while helping students in our community.

Hoyas told First Watch, "[W]hen you sign up, you track the distance you are running, walking, or cycling. You [can] choose [to participate in] one or the other during the entire month of March. And for every milestone you pass, you earn an entry into a prize drawing."

Hoyas explained that for every ten miles a participant runs or walks, or for every thirty miles cycled, they can earn one entry for a prize drawing.

The cost to enter is $40, plus tax and processing fees. Participants can sign up at RunSignUp.com. The proceeds from this event will provide scholarships for Cochise College students.

Prizes for the Pathway to $50K Challenge

A full list of prizes hasn't been officially announced, but some awards include smart watches, fitness-related items, visibility vests, and gift cards from local businesses.
