Have you noticed that AI Chatbots are popping up nearly everywhere? They're even attached to certain social media sites like Snapchat, for example. These chatbots are still quite primitive, but I've considered the possibility that they may have been reined in a little and told to play nice.

Remember some of the early conversations people were having with them? Back when public testing began, Bing's chatbot told a tech columnist he should leave his wife for the 'Bot, as the Huffington Post reported earlier this year.

Because I can't leave well enough alone, I decided to lean into the skid. I wondered, is AI still full of weirdness and lowkey disdain for humans, or has it been sweetened up a bit?

Today I asked ChatGPT to describe what a typical person from Arizona is like.

Since chatbots are powered by the vast diversity of the interwebs, I was a little worried about what I would get back. Would she (he...it?? Does ChatGPT have a PRONOUN?) give a flattering description of the humble citizens of Arizona or would the 'Bot take its opinion to a dark place?

The Answer Surprised Me

To be clear on this, I only asked this ONE question. I didn't engage ChatGPT in a conversation, I just threw this one idea out there to see what I'd get back. And the answer was a pleasant surprise.

ChatGPT described what a typical person from Arizona is like in this way:

Hey, that's nice! I know a lot of people who fit that description. On the other hand, I spend too much time INSIDE A BUILDING behind a keyboard, so now I have some goals.

This is great! I'm totally self-reliant! I can dial for roadside assistance to change a tire faster than anyone I know. As long as I have air conditioning, I'll be fine for at least 10 full minutes until help arrives!

Friendly and Hospitable: Arizonans are often known for their warm hospitality and friendliness towards visitors and newcomers.

That's so true!! As long as they're not related to me, I love EVERYONE!
