Taco Bell’s Nostalgia Menu Coming to Arizona?

I'm a creature of habit. When my favorite menu items go extinct at a restaurant, I have a tough time getting over it. I find myself asking for the missing item repeatedly., much to the annoyance of the folks working there.

Setting aside the crazy looks I get from Taco Bell employees who've never even heard of a Caramel Apple Empanada, there's a small hope that if I keep asking for it, I'll somehow create enough demand that the restaurant chain will surely relent and bring it back to the menu.

A One-Woman Campain to Bring Back Menu Favorites

The effectiveness of my one-person campaign is open to some debate. As much as I'd like to think the tired-looking kid at the drive-through window would actually tell her manager that some crazy weird nice lady keeps asking for something called a Meximelt, then presuming the exhausted manager would tell her General Manager, and so on, I know I'm living a fantasy.

But maybe it DID work. I can't be the only one asking for Ye Olde Taco Belle Items of Yore. Fans request old favorites through much more official methods, like customer feedback websites. You know, the old-fashioned way

It seems that Taco Bell has heard our cries. They're bringing back some of our nostalgic favorites, and the menu will return some of the best items from decades past. Starting back in the groovy '60s up to the 2000s, you'll find some sweet faves headed back to the menu.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s on the menu:

  • The Tostada (1960s): This "flat taco" is basically an unbent corn taco shell, refried beans, red sauce, lettuce, and cheese. This item left the menu in 2020.
  • The Green Burrito (1970s): This item hasn't been on the menu since the '90s. A tortilla wrapped around refried beans, crunchy onions, shredded cheddar, and green tomatillo sauce.
  • The Meximelt (1980s): I'll admit, this is the item I miss the most. Torn from our tastebuds (and the menu) back in 2019, this delicious goodness has gooey, melted cheddar, Monterey jack, and mozzarella cheeses, hanging out with seasoned ground beef and pico de gallo—all wrapped in a soft tortilla. It was small but mighty.
  • Beef Gordita Supreme (1990s): This menu gem went the way of the Meximelt in 2019, too. Remember this one? The pillowy gordita was filled with seasoned beef, cheese, and supreme awesomeness.
  • Caramel Apple Empanada (Early 2000s): The menu gurus were busy slashing items from the menu back in 2019, it seems, because they pulled this one, too. The only dessert option to make to return is this flaky pastry enveloping gooey caramel and spiced apples.

When is the Nostalgia Menu Coming to Arizona

I checked the Taco Bell website. Right now, the nostalgia menu is being tested in a few Southern California locations, but Taco Bell is planning a nationwide rollout later this year.

Then we can all roll into a totally tubular Taco Bell and grab a groovy snack like a bunch of ballers. It's gonna be RAD!
