Surprisingly, Arizona Does THIS More Than Any Other State!
When it comes to avoiding, well, EVERYTHING, Arizonans seem to be the World Champions at the Sport of Avoidance. Of course, I made that sport up, but if it were real, we'd win, hands down.
I'm as surprised as you are! In a state with more than 300 days of sunshine and mild winters, you'd think we would all be outside riding our horses, hiking, or sunbathing, doing pretty much anything as long as it's outside. But in a land where we also regularly register 114 degrees days, maybe this all makes sense.
What Arizona Does More than Any Other State
According to a new study, Arizona takes the dubious honor for this one thing. The Grand Canyon State is currently leading the nation in screen time, and the reasons are as stunning as our beautiful landscapes, which you may not have seen if your eyes are constantly on your phone.

What's the Daily Average Amount of Screen Time for Arizona?
How long are we staring at our screens every day?
In Arizona, we log a stunning 530 minutes of daily screen time, which works out to a staggering 8 hours and 50 minutes every day.
That's almost twice as much time as Kansas spends on their devices, the state with the lowest average daily screen time. Apparently, they've got better things to do in the Sunflower State because, on average, they only log about 5 hours and 27 minutes on their devices.

Arizonans aren't very good at leaving our phones alone, either. We pick up our devices a whopping 102.4 times each day!
Why Arizona Logs More Screen Time Than Any Other State
This jaw-dropping statistic prompts the question: Why does Arizona log more screen time than any other state?
When the temperature soars past 100 degrees, even the thought of going outside is exhausting. That drives us back to our couches, where we naturally pick up our devices.
This isn't a new phenomenon, either. The website SimpleTexting surveyed users back in 2019 using Apple's screentime tracker and discovered that even back then, we used our devices more than any other state. In the first study, Arizona averaged 276 minutes, or 4.6 hours daily. We've become more obsessed in the years since.
What are We Doing on Our Devices, Arizona?
The latest study reports that in Arizona, we pick up our phones about 102 times a day and spend around 5.17 minutes each time we engage with them. We are also more obsessed with our devices on Mondays.
While this study focused on iOS devices and cell phone usage, it would be interesting to see if data from Android users showed the same results. Considering we're also watching other screens and working on computers, does Arizona do anything in the real world these days?
Maybe it's time to stop scrolling, connect the cellular device to Bluetooth headphones, and take the dog for a walk—when the weather cools down, of course. I'm not a monster.
