What Happened When She Found THESE at This Arizona Business
When you live in the desert, it's not uncommon for high winds to carry something strange, unusual, or unexpected to your yard. Once, a neighbor's plastic kiddie pool landed in our yard after a windstorm.
I have several Desert Bird of Paradise plants growing in my yard because the desert breezes carried the seeds from my neighbor's yard to mine, and they took up residence around my Palo Verde tree.

A similar thing happened in front of our radio station building. The Desert Willow in the photograph below is a volunteer from a parent tree growing up the road from our radio station.
What are the Strange Things Left on the Radio Station Property?
Plants that "volunteer" is one thing and not unexpected. But finding THESE objects on the radio station property was really strange.
Our radio station's building was once a single-family home decades ago, so it is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. We're set back from the road quite a bit, surrounded by acres of desert, and we often find strange and unusual things on the surrounding land.
For example, a local construction company left some barricades on the property. Since they don't hurt anything, we've left them alone for the company to pick up when they need them.
The History of the Barricades, we understand. It's part of our station lore (albeit, not very interesting lore.)
What we found on the property when we returned to work this past Monday, well, that's an entirely new mystery.

What are these things in the station driveway?
I mean, I know what these objects are. I just don't know why they're on the station's property. The fact that there's a line of them is even more baffling.
There's a grocery store about four blocks or so from our location, but I'm sure the very productive cart collector employed by the store would park them in front of the shop, not walk the 4 or 5 blocks down the street to deposit them here.
So why are there five shopping carts hanging out on the edge of our property?
Were they bored sitting in front of the store? Did they wander away after a long, crazy party weekend and lose their way home? Are they hiding out in some kind of shopping basket witness protection program? Whatever the reason, they weren't fessing up, so I took matters into my own hands.

How to Report a Lost Shopping Cart
I called the grocery store, and they were as perplexed as I was.
None of their employees would walk this far, and from what I've seen, the shoppers won't even make the five-step trek from their vehicle to the cart corral. I guarantee they're not coming this far with a line of shopping carts.
I learned it's surprisingly easy to report stray shopping carts if you find they've wandered away from the store. You can call 1-800-THE-CART or click this link for Arizona Cart Services.
Until someone comes for them, much like the barricades, they'll be here until they find their way home.
