According to WalletHub’s 2026 “Best Cities for Jobs” report, Scottsdale ranked No. 1 in the entire country for job seekers. This Arizona city beat out more than 180 other U.S. cities. With this news, it feels like Arizona is not only heading in the right direction, it's leading the way.
WalletHub conducted the survey by comparing cities using 31 different metrics. They looked at the number of job openings per applicant, starting salaries, unemployment rates, and the overall socio‑economic strength of each area they compared.
Scottsdale didn’t just edge out the competition; it dominated thanks to a strong job market, high-quality opportunities, and a solid economic environment.

According to WalletHub, Arizona’s Job Market Is Heating Up
Scottsdale wasn't the only Arizona city to rank highly in WalletHub's survey. Several other cities scored highly and garnered impressive rankings:

- Gilbert came in at #28
- Tempe was right behind at #30
- Peoria ranked #33
- Mesa hit the board at #55
- Phoenix secured the #72 spot
- Glendale was ranked at #80
- Tucson made #130 (the lowest in the state, but still included in the study)
Tucson ranked the lowest in Arizona, but it came in much higher than other major metropolitan areas in the United States.
For example, New York City came in at 145, Los Angeles at 148, and Detroit was dead last at 182. With so many Arizona cities in the top 100, there's a clear trend: the state is becoming a great place for job growth, economic opportunity, and quality of life.
