That's what happened this morning. I received a telephone call about a brand of waffles I regularly purchase from Target. "Check your freezer," the message said. "These waffles may have been contaminated with listeria. Contact the store for a refund."

Every week, it seems, another product is being recalled due to contamination. The food-borne illness of the quarter seems to be listeria, and now yet another popular product sold in Arizona is being recalled due to contamination.

A massive recall of frozen waffles is making waves across Arizona, the U.S., and Canada due to another potential Listeria contamination.

This time, the company behind the recall is TreeHouse Foods. The brand produces waffles under several popular brands:

• Kodiak Cakes
• Good & Gather
• Great Value

The affected products were sold at major retailers like Walmart, Target, Publix, and Kroger.

What Happens When People Are Infected with Listeria?

So many products have been recalled recently due to Listeria contamination. What's the big deal?

This sneaky bacterium can cause Listeriosis, which can be a serious infection. The illness is especially dangerous for pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, or anyone with a weakened immune system.

According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms of listeriosis range from fever and muscle aches to more severe issues.

It's not uncommon to experience a headache, stiff neck, confusion, or even seizures.

Check your freezer for any recalled products. Look for the UPC on the back of the box, and check the Lot Code and Best By Date for these products on the end of the carton.
