Sierra Vista Heats Up The Summer With Live Music
Summer in Southern Arizona is not the most ideal time to host events. The days regularly hit over 100 degrees, and there's little in terms of breeze and cloud coverage.
That being said, the nights in Arizona are the polar opposite. With the sun going away to hide, the temperatures drop drastically, and the outdoors is safe once again. Sierra Vista, a midsized city in Cochise County uses that to their advantage and brings the community together on summer nights through the power of music.
What is the Thursday Night Summer Concert Series?
For the past few years, Sierra Vista has turned summer nights into a massive community gathering. Every Thursday in July and August, hundreds of local residents will gather in the city's Veterans Memorial Park for one thing and one thing only: Live, Local Music.

Every week showcases a new band from Cochise County, from rock 'n' roll groups, to jazz combos and everything in between. No matter the genre, folks show out to enjoy a weeknight in the park.

What Does This Mean for the Community?
For the past few weeks, I've been attending these concerts, and asking members of the community their thoughts. These are massive events, filling up the stage at Centennial Pavilion with families, dogs, and locals just wanting to see some good live music.
This means a lot to the members of the community. It's rare to see this many people gather together in the summer, but these events are filled week in and week out. It allows a chance for new friends to be made, old connections reestablished, and a chance to be social face-to-face in an era where that is becoming increasingly less common.
