November 1st, 2023 is a painful day for Diamondback fans. The snakes had made it all the way to the World Series, facing off against the red-hot Texas Rangers, only to fall short and lose the series 4-1.

Arizona was a few games away from bringing a championship to the valley, and couldn't finish the job. As the offseason went on, many were fearful that the Diamondbacks would have to go back to square one.

We couldn't have been further from the truth.

Opening Day

March 28th was the first day of the 2024 MLB season. The wait was over, and it was time for America's game to take the reins.

Fans flooded into Phoenix early that morning, hours away from first pitch to simply take in the festivities, tailgate, and prepare to watch their snakes dominate. Many restaurants and bars were slammed in Phoenix, filled with the anxious murmurings of unsure fans.

They didn't have to wait for long to know they were back.

Few, in fact, no teams have ever had an opening day like the 2024 Diamondbacks.

Starting off the first inning, Arizona knocked through two runs to give themselves an early lead. The Rockies answered back in the second with an RBI double. That's when the fun stopped.

The snakes took the plate in the third, and the switch flipped. The Diamondbacks rattled off 14, yes I typed that correctly, 14 runs in one inning.

Finishing the night with 16 runs in total, all scored before the fourth inning, the D-Backs made a statement, and one that will go down in history. 16 runs is the most any team since 1900 has scored on opening day, as well as tying for the fourth place record of runs scored in an inning.

There are still 161 games to play, and it's unclear if Arizona's dominance will continue, but this was a pretty good start.
