Buena’s Student Driven Showcase: Here’s the Highlights!
In case you missed it, Buena High School had their annual showcase on Wednesday! This showcase is an event for community members and students to go to Buena and see what they are working on. I stopped by and talked to students, faculty, and teachers about the programs available at Buena.

CTE programs!?
Buena High School offers a total of 13 CTE programs. What is a CTE program? CTE stands for Career and Technical Education. A couple examples of programs that fall under this category include automotive technology, film and tv, welding, culinary, and nursing. You can find an official list of all potential programs on Buena High Schools website.
While at the showcases I interviewed students and teachers involved in these programs. Cali, the president of the robotics club gave me great insight into her club. She shared that her club is about building robots and also building community. "You're competing with competitors, but you're still helping each other and building a family almost..." She told me. At the showcase, this club had a robot shooting yellow balls, or "fuel" as they called it, into a makeshift hoop.
Robotics isn't the only program with excited students. I interviewed the president of choir! "It's helped me build my confidence." She told me. Not only does choir teach you how to keep rhythm and sing, but it also teaches you how to perform and feel comfortable in front of a crowd which can really benefit students later in life.
All of the students at the showcase were eager to show off their respective courses, and all of the amazing things they put time and effort into.

How many sports!?
Buena offers programs outside of technical education. They have 23 different sports programs according to the Principal, Mrs. Young. Among these programs there is football, wrestling, softball, golf, soccer, track, and so much more. With beautiful playing fields and great coaches, Buena is the place for sports.
High school sports keep students active. no matter the sport that is being played, students also get to join a team. Teams can be important for teenagers, as it provides a sense of community. With a different sport for every type of person, Buena is a great place to send an energetic kid who wants to do sports.
Programs at Buena also work together a lot. The Buena High School Film students work with the football team during games to make sure they're plays end up on the big screen. Students on the field get to feel seen, and students behind the scenes get to learn about camera work and the technicality behind live sports footage.
Do these programs really benefit students?
Buena offers something for every type of student. Not only that, but these students are also learning technical skills and process's that will set them ahead and the real world. All of the st7udents, teachers, and faculty I talked to felt that student programs in any capacity are impotent.
Whether fine arts, sports, or a technical education program, students involved it events at Buena thrive. Everyone needs a community, and everyone needs a purpose. Programs at Buena offer all that and so much more to prospective students.
